9. Out of Africa, Sidney Pollack, 1985
This pains me to put on this list, because I actually don’t think Out of Africa is an awful movie. It’s more like a desperate David Lean wannabe epic.
Still, it is a painfully slow adaptation of Karen Blixen’s novel. Meryl Streep gives a good performance as Karen, but this is hardly Pollack’s best film. Also, keep in mind that this is a movie set in Africa, but without any actual Africans in any major roles.
