Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), a small-time boxer gets a supremely rare chance to fight the heavy-weight champion, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), in a bout in which he strives to go the distance for his self-respect. Great direction by John Alvidsen and a stellar performance by Stallone.
A storyline about an underdog making it big based on his perseverance to beat the odds is a story that has all the elements of a Best Picture nomination. It was no surprise that Rocky won Best Picture in 1976.
