Is it any wonder why The Silence of the Lambs took home the Oscar in 1991? Jonathan Demme directed this dark film about a young FBI cadet investigating a crime about a serial killer who skins his victims by getting close to another manipulative killer who is behind bars and is also a cannibal.
Brilliant performances given by Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins in the films lead roles. Until that film, I don’t believe the world had seen anything like it. It definitely made film history and obviously Academy Award history for being the third film in Academy history to win the “Big Five.” The Silence of the Lambs swept the Oscars meriting Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Director and Best Writing awards to very deserving recipients.
