What can I say about Gone With The Wind?
Personally, it may forever be my favorite. This film helped onset my love of movies and passion for the entertainment industry including acting. Vivian Leigh’s Scarlett was mesmerizing. She devoured that role and became Scarlett. As a feminist at times, I found Scarlett so relatable. The story is said to follow a manipulative southern belle in an affair with a blockade runner Rhett (Clark Gable) during the American Civil War. I did not feel Scarlett was maliciously manipulative. As you watch her character progress and the layers unfold, you realize that everything is done for a reason.
Gone With The Wind, which was directed by Victor Fleming, won Best Picture in 1940 along with Best Actress in a Leading role to Leigh and Hattie McDaniel became the first African American to be nominated for and win an Oscar. She won in the Supporting Actress category. The film was nominated for many Academy Awards and won quite a few. I will always recommend this movie if you want a to see a movie that involves love, life, death, sadness, happiness, heroism, drama, comedy and strong characters. Gone With The Wind has it all.
