Extra Texture came at the nadir of Harrison’s career, when he was still trying to keep up with the frenetic pace that Paul McCartney and John Lennon recorded at. But it was clear that George really needed more time to develop his material. That’s made painfully obvious with Extra Texture, a too-soft, soul-oriented album that offers few highlights.
The single, “You,” is nice, but pure pop fluff. “This Guitar (Can’t Keep Me From Crying)” is the spiritual sequel to “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and is certainly a fine track, but could be better.
