After getting charged with assault for putting a female film executive in a choke hold, Emile Hirsch has checked himself into rehab.
He was charged with felony aggravated assault in addition to public intoxication for the incident, which occurred at the Sundance Film Festival late last month.
Robert Offer, Hirsch’s attorney, said in a statement that Hirsch blacked out that night in question, which has forced him to evaluate his health.
"Emile consumed an enormous amount of alcohol on the evening in question and he has no memory of what happened,” Offer told E! News.
"Emile takes these allegations very seriously, and is devastated that any of this has occurred. A few days after the incident, Emile sought help and checked himself into an alcohol rehabilitation facility, where he remains today, to ensure nothing like this ever happens again."’
If Hirsch is found guilty of the felony and misdemeanor charges, he could face over 5 years in a Utah jail and over $5,000 in fines.
