Charlie Sheen is giving his two cents in the Brian Williams ordeal, which sees him suspended from NBC for six months without pay for lying about events in Iraq.
Sheen’s input is always entertaining, but this time he took a more serious tone in his commentary on Twitter.
In a lengthy tweet, the Anger Management star called the suspended NBC Nightly News anchor a “hero,” also calling him a “victim of a transparent and vile witch hunt.”
“First off, THANK YOU, for 24 years of inimitable professionalism and top shelf brilliance, as a stone cold passion driven and (PERFECTLY) fact based journalist,” he wrote.
He added this so-called witch hunt is “’staged’ by hooligans, non coms, cowards and oligarchs, who’s only desperate and hideous goal is to discredit the genius that they relied on for almost 3 decades.”
NBC News president Deborah Turness said in a statement while announcing Williams’ suspension his lie was “wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position.”
For Williams’ part, he recanted the helicopter story on his show last week and has since stated he would “not have chosen to make this mistake,” adding, “I don’t know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another.”
