Browns QB Johnny Manziel enters rehab

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is entering a rehab program, although the reason for the decision has not been made public yet.

Brad Beckworth, a friend and advisor to Manziel, issued a statement through the team, announcing that Manziel began the program on Wednesday.

“Johnny knows there are areas he needs to improve on to help him be a better family member, friend and teammate, so he decided to take this step in his life during the offseason,” Beckworth said. “On behalf of Johnny and his family, we’re asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland.”

Browns general manager Ray Farmer said that the team supports his decision and that the “health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns.”

“We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player,” Farmer continued. “Johnny's privacy will be respected by us during this very important period and we hope that others will do the same."

Manziel, 22, has a reputation for bad behavior off-the-field and was fined for oversleeping the day before the team’s season finale against Baltimore. According to Cleveland.com, he admitted that he was partying the night before.

Manziel was drafted 22nd overall by the Browns, but spent most of his rookie season on the bench. He appeared in five games all season and started twice, but lost both games.
