A YouTube user has pulled off a remarkable achievement with Nintendo’s Super Mario World game. He figured out a way to get a specific glitch to work that takes the player to the game’s end credits in just under six minutes.
SethBling posted the video yesterday and it shows the first ever time that a player has found the glitch, which allows a player to skip to the credits without beating Bowser in the final level. As he explains in his commentary, he was basically writing code, rather than actually “playing” it. He had to move blocks around, defeat Koopas, go down the right tubes and even move in specific ways, otherwise, he would have to start all over again.
He finished the game in 5:59.6 after over 150 attempts in his original video.
He didn’t actually break the world record for beating the game, but this is the first time that anyone has got the glitch to work while playing on the actual Super Nintendo console. Previously, it had only been found using an emulator.
Kokatu notes that SethBling later did beat the game in 4:49.8 with the glitch. That does set the record for beating the game.
The glitch was discovered by Twitch user JeffW356, who explained it here.
