Tom Hardy will not get a second chance in a DC Comics movie. The Locke actor has dropped out of Suicide Squad and could be replaced by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Back in December, Warner Bros. announced that Hardy would be part of the all-star cast for the all-villain film. The actor, who played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, was set to play Rick Flagg.
However, it looks like scheduling will prevent him from appearing in the film. According to TheWrap, Alejandro G. Inarritu’s The Revenant is going over schedule and will continue filming into March. After that, Hardy has to start promoting the May 15 release Mad Max: Fury Road. He is also eventually going to star in the FX/BBC series Taboo. Warner Bros. wanted to start filming on Suicide Squad in April.
With Hardy out of the picture, Gyllenhaal is reportedly in talks to take the role. David Ayer, who is directing, also directed Gyllenhaal in End of Watch.
Gyllenhaal is coming off back-to-back critically acclaimed performances in Prisoners and Nightcrawler. His next film is Southpaw and is currently on Broadway in Constellations.
Suicide Squad will star Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto. Viola Davis is in talks to play Amanda Waller.
