Since Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars spin-off is supposed to hit theaters in late 2016, it’s about time for casting to get underway. Even though the project just lost its writer, the film is starting to test actresses for a key role.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter late Tuesday that Rooney Mara, best known for her Oscar-nominated performance in David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is among the actresses being considered.
Tatiana Maslany, the star of BBC America’s critically acclaimed Orphan Black, is testing as well.
Lucasfilm and Disney also reportedly want to give The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jones a shot, but she could be busy with other projects. She’s set to star in Ron Howard’s Da Vinci Code sequel Inferno.
Nothing, not even who the film will be about, is known. Godzilla director Gareth Edwards is helming and the first draft was written by Gary Whitta. However, the Book of Eli writer left the project earlier this month.
There have been rumors that Simon Kinberg could take over, since he is already involved in the new Disney-run Star Wars universe. The X-Men: Apocalypse writer is already working on Josh Trank’s Star Wars spin-off.
The Edwards film is currently scheduled for Dec. 16, 2016.
