Military officials confirmed that there was a shooting at a Texas veterans hospital in which one doctor was shot and the suspected gunman was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Washington Post noted that the news was confirmed by the office of Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas.
The El Paso Times reported that the shooting occurred Tuesday around 4 p.m. local time at the El Paso VA Health Care System. Although initial reports claimed that the active shooter situation was at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, authorities said that there was no incident there.
As a result of the shooting, the entire hospital complex and its adjacent veterans' facilities were placed on lockdown.
Few details about the incident have been released, however, local media outlets have said that the man law enforcement officials believe fatally shot himself, is the same person who shot the doctor.
The healthcare worker’s condition is not known at this time.
An investigation is underway.
