Shoe designer Vince Camuto has died at the age of 78 after battling cancer. He died in his Greenwich, Connect. Home on Wednesday.

Camuto was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his death; his wife, Louise, and their five children.

The designer, a fixture in the fashion industry, has previously talked about his dedication to his family, Women’s Wear Daily reports.

“My children are my proudest accomplishment,” he has said. “Even at the office, I feel like everyone is family. Family is what is most important to me.”

Camuto and his former business partner Jerome Fisher founded Nine West’s footwear line, the Nine West Group, in 1978. They sold it for $900 million in 1999.

He has joined forced with Jessica Simpson to launch her line at Dillards and has also collaborated with Tory Burch.

Simpson paid tribute to him in an Instagram post, calling him her “mentor.”

“Thank you, Vince, for the humble power that has taken me everywhere. You are my mentor, my family, the creator of all my dreams. I will forever walk in your shoes…you made them. #brokenheart,” she wrote.
