American Sniper had a stellar opening weekend, making $90.2 million at the box office, and it’s no surprise that the film has sparked somewhat of a debate.
On Monday, Michael Moore tweeted that snipers were “cowards” and now Sarah Palin is weighing in.
On her Facebook page, she defended Chris Kyle and other snipers defending our country.
“Hollywood leftists: While caressing shiny plastic trophies you exchange among one another while spitting on the graves of freedom fighters who allow you to do what you do, just realize the rest of America knows you're not fit to shine Chris Kyle's combat boots,” she wrote.
While others such as Newt Gingrich slammed Moore for his comments, the Oscar winning filmmaker sort of backtracked.
“I never tweeted 1word bout AmericanSniper/ChrisKyle,” he wrote. “I said my uncle killed by sniper in WWII; only cowards would do that 2 him, others.”
He then posted a more lengthy version of his opinion on the film to his Facebook page, calling Bradley Cooper’s performance “awesome” and “one of the best of the year.”
He did say, however, director Clint Eastwood “gets Vietnam and Iraq confused in his storytelling. And that he has his characters calling Iraqis "savages" throughout the film.”
Hmm. I never tweeted 1word bout AmericanSniper/ChrisKyle. I said my uncle killed by sniper in WWII; only cowards would do that 2 him, others
