Margaret Cho is defending herself amidst criticism she’s receiving for dressing up as a North Korean leader reminiscent of Kim Jong-Un at the Golden Globes on Sunday during a bit with hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
She took to Twitter and used the hashtag “#FreeSpeech” in her defense of dressing up as the general.
In addition to retweeting various media outlets’ coverage on it, she wrote, “I'm of mixed North/South Korean descent - you imprison, starve and brainwash my people you get made fun of by me #hatersgonhate #FreeSpeech.”
Some viewers who criticized the skit called it racist, but she continued, “I'm not playing the race card. I'm playing the rice card. #hatersgonwait #winnersgonpun.”
Deadline notes she called herself “Cho Young-ja,” who had a lot of negative feedback for the show.
“You no have thousand baby playing guitar at the same time. You no have people holding up many card to make one big picture,” she told Fey and Poehler.
She also gave some unsolicited advice, such as "I think that Orange is the New Black should be in drama category. It's funny but not 'Ha-Ha' funny."
