Jessica Chastain wasn't too happy with Russell Crowe's comments on women actors

Russell Crowe must have forgotten about Jessica Chastain when he decided to reveal his thoughts on why older actresses have trouble finding roles. Chastain blasted the Australian actor for his comments.

“I think he's getting his foot stuck in his mouth,” Chastain said this week at the National Board of Review awards in New York, notes People.

Last month, Crowe told Australian Women’s Weekly that he thinks women over 40 have the same chances for roles as men. Their only problem is that they don’t want them.

“To be honest, I think you'll find that the woman who is saying that (the roles have dried up) is the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still wants to play the ingénue, and can’t understand why she's not being cast as the 21 year old,” Crowe told the magazine.

Crowe later cited Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep as actresses who continue to get roles because they look for parts that better fit their age.

Streep was actually asked what she thought of the comments at an Into The Woods premiere in London and she said that she agreed with him, notes The Irish Independent. “I agree with him. It’s good to live in the place where you are,” the three-time Oscar winner said.

Chastain, 37, knows what it’s like to struggle to find roles in big Hollywood projects. In fact, even though she stars in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, she only has a small part. The bulk of her performances lately have come in indie films, like A Most Violent Year, which is expected to be up for Oscars this year.
