Fifty Shades of Grey co-stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson did their first joint interview ahead of the highly-anticipated release of the film on Valentine’s Day.
Director Sam Taylor-Johnson said they filmed like sex scenes last so that Dornan and Johnson could get to know each other better throughout filming.
That proved to help, as Johnson told Glamour UK as soon as they were done shooting a sex scene, Dornan would cover her up with a blanket while she laid there chained to a bed.
"There were times when Dakota was not wearing much, and I had to do stuff to her that I'd never choose to do to a woman," Dornan said, with Johnson adding, "It's stressful enough to be tied to a bed naked in a scene, but then they call cut, and you're still tied to the bed, naked. Jamie would be the first one to throw a blanket over me."
In order to keep it authentic, Johnson said she avoided the sex dungeon – or the red room of pain – entirely until it was time to film in there.
"I didn't go to the sex dungeon. I wanted to keep myself distanced from it at first because I wanted Ana's reaction to certain things to be completely honest and real, like new," she said.
Dornan, on the other hand, has admitted to going to a real sex dungeon for research.
Dornan and Johnson will bring E.L. James' characters Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele to life on the big screen on Feb. 14.
