Hershey forces British candy importer to stop bringing U.K. chocolates to U.S.

The U.S. is at war with the U.K. again, but this time, it’s over chocolate. Hershey has forced British importer Let’s By British Imports from bringing U.K. chocolate bars to the U.S., infuriating all who like Yorkie or Toffee Crisps candies.

Last week, the Telegraph reported that Hershey filed a lawsuit against two importers, claiming that they confuse American consumers and infringe on U.S. copyrights. The company claimed that some may confuse a Yorkie - which is a chocolate bar - with the York Peppermint Patties. The Toffee Crisps packaging is also apparently too close to the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Hershey also argued that importing original Cadbury chocolates needed to stop, because Hershey has the exclusive license to produce Cadbury chocolates in the U.S. Hershey's Cadbury varieties have similar packaging, but use a different recipe.

On Monday, The New York Times reported that Hershey’s struck a deal with LBB, which means that none of these delicious goods will be imported to the U.S.

Not only is this terrible news for those that love these chocolates, but it’s also bad news for stores that specialize in British goods.

“Things in the world are bad enough as it is,” Nicky Perry, the owner of Manhattan’s Tea & Sympathy, told the Times. “And now you’re going to take away our chocolate?”
