Eva Longoria heads to NBC for 'Telenovela' comedy

Eva Longoria, who was recently seen on Fox’s Brooklyn Nine Nine, is returning to primetime television full time. The former Desperate Housewives star is heading to NBC in a new comedy.

NBC announced that the Television Critics Association Press Tour today in Pasadena that it ordered 13 episodes of Telenovela, a half-hour comedy. The series comes from Cougar Town team Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein. It will be produced by Universal TV.

Longoria will play Ana Maria, a diva and the star of Latin America’s most popular telenovela. The series pulls back the curtain on what it takes to make these wildly popular series, showing how there’s as much drama behind the scenes as there is in front of the camera.

“There are few actresses with as much international appeal as Eva Longoria,” Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment said. “She is a perfect fit for Telenovela. Her character will try to navigate the hysteria and high jinks that everyone must endure in putting together a daily show.”

It’s not a complete surprise to hear that Longoria is making a comeback. Back in September, it was first reported that both NBC and ABC were looking to get Longoria for a project. Obviously, NBC won the sweepstakes.

Longoria will also be an executive producer on Telenovela.
