Leave it to Ellen DeGeneres to take a tearjerker moment from the Golden Globes and turn it into a hilarious spoof. Case in point: George Clooney gushing to his wife, Amal, during his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
DeGeneres placed herself next to Amal at her table while Clooney was onstage telling his wife of about four months how “proud” he is to be her husband.
When Clooney started saying “Amal,” DeGeneres spits out her champagne in outrage. “Amal?!”
She told her audience at The Ellen DeGeneres Show before introducing the spoof, "There were a lot of good speeches, and his was amazing, but it just did not end the way that I thought it would.”
After she showed the clip, she laughed, “I don't know why they sat me next to her, or why I was wearing a dress.”
What Clooney did say to Amal – not DeGeneres - during the heartwarming moment was, “It's a humbling thing to find someone you love. Even better if you've been waiting your whole life. Amal, whatever alchemy it is that brought us together, I couldn't be more proud to be your husband.”
