The California Highway Patrol has said that a man in Northern California delivered his son when his wife went into labor in the car while on the way to the hospital.
The Patch reported that on Wednesday morning, the man pulled over after his wife indicated that the baby was ready to come out whether they were at the hospital or not.
The San Francisco Chronicle noted the CHP dispatchers got a call from the man on Highway 24 in Lafayette, just after 7:30 saying that his wife was in labor.
“He was concerned, but apparently, he was pretty calm as his wife was going into labor,” said CHP Officer John Fransen.
While medical personnel was on the way to the scene, the man called 911 again to let them know that his baby had been born. He also said the trio was en route to the hospital, which was only a few minutes away.
“It’s definitely a miracle,” Fransen said. “Luckily, most people are able to get to the hospital, but sometimes, when the child wants to enter into this world, they don’t wait.”
And that is exactly what happened in this case.
The healthy baby boy and his mother are said to be doing great.
