If summer music festivals were trying to get older, they certainly succeeded. After Coachella picked AC/DC as a headliner, Bonnaroo picked Billy Joel this week. Mumford & Sons, Florence + The Machine, Kendrick Lamar and Deadmau5 are also among the Bonnaroo acts.
The Bonnaroo organizers announced their line-up earlier this week and surprisingly picked the “Piano Man” singer as their main act. He hasn’t made a new album in over two decades, so he isn’t going to have new material to promote, that’s for sure. It also means that he will not be able to perform at Madison Square Garden between June 11 and June 14, when the Tennessee festival takes place.
After Joel, Mumford & Sons is on the line-up. That proves that they aren’t staying broke up very long.
Deadmau5, Lamar, Florence + The Machine (who is also doing Coachella), Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters are also among the headliners.
Other acts include My Morning Jacket; Alabama Shakes; Childish Gambino; Hozier; Slayer; Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals; Ben Folds & YMusic; Tears for Fears; Earth, Wind & Fire and Gary Clark Jr.
Tickets for the festival go on sale Saturday.
