Around 2,000 feared dead after latest Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria

Around 2,000 people are feared dead in what has been described as the “deadliest massacre” in the history of the extremist group Boko Haram.

Fox News.com noted that as many as 2,000 people may have been killed during the recent attacks in Baga.

As previously reported, over the last two weeks, the group overran a military base and attacked several different towns and villages. Most of the victims are said to be women, children and the elderly.

The Nigerian army has called for help and support in tackling Boko Haram. The group is the same that claimed responsibility for abducting more than 200 girls at a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State last April.

The name Boko Haram means western education is sinful.

The insurgent group has committed countless acts of violence in the country over the last six years. The U.N., the U.S. State Department, as well as many others have denounced the attacks that have been carried out.
