200-year-old meditating mummy discovered in Mongolia (Reports)

An astonishing discovery was reportedly made in Mongolia this week when a 200-year-old mummy was found. Not only was it preserved in perfect condition, but the body was found in a meditation position.

It is believed to be the body of a Buddhist monk, who was sitting in a lotus position, according to the Mongolia Morning News. The discovery was made in the Songinokhairkhan on Jan. 27, the Siberian Times noted.

The reports state that the body was covered with cattle skin and may have been a teacher for the famous Lama Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov, who was also mummified at the time of his death in 1927. In 2002, Itigilov’s body was also discovered nearly perfectly preserved, notes the New York Daily News.

The body discovered this week will be taken to the Ulaanbaatar National Centre of Forensic Expertise for investigation.
