Two people in Hong Kong have been arrested after more than a million dollars spilled onto a roadway, brought traffic to a screeching halt and sent motorist dashing for cash.
UPI noted that on Wednesday three crates of banknotes fell from the back of an armored vehicle and scattered along a busy eight-lane highway.
Video from a local news station showed people exiting their vehicles in effort to grab as much cash as they could. Authorities said that two of those people have since been arrested.
CNN reported that a 43-year-old male and a 36-year-old female were accused of hiding stolen money in their homes and taken into custody. Most of the missing banknotes have been recovered as dozens of others voluntarily turned in what they took.
Police said those who returned the cash will not face charges.
The global security company that is responsible for transporting the money said that an internal investigation into the incident is currently underway.
