10. The Immigrant, James Gray
While completed in 2013, The Weinstein Company unceremoniously dumped James Gray’s turn-of-the-century masterpiece The Immigrant in theaters this past summer. It is currently streaming on Netflix, where hopefully someone is seeing it. Joaquin Phoenix has been better elsewhere, but Marion Cotillard’s performance as a Polish immigrant is just beautiful. It truly is bizarre how the Weinsteins pick movies to promote for Oscars. Cotillard truly continues to prove that she’s one of the best in the world right now and even with two acclaimed performances (she also stars in the Dardenne brothers’ Two Days, One Night), she will likely miss out. A total shame.
