The long-gestating remake of the cult classic The Crow has going through another directing change.
Relativity Studios picked Corin Hardy, who directed a short film called Butterfly. While his first feature film, The Hallow, hasn’t been released yet, Deadline notes that Edgar Wright recommended him to producer Edward R. Pressman. The producer is overseeing the reboot and also produced Alex Proyas’ original 1994 film with Brandon Lee.
The Crow was created by James O’Barr, whose graphic novel centers on a murdered man seeking revenge.
The remake has been in the works for a long time. Back in 2010, Blade’s Stephen Norrington was set to direct. In 2011, 28 Days Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was tapped for the job, but he has moved on. Hardy is actually replacing F. Javier Gutierrez, who is now directing a reboot of The Ring.
Cliff Dorfman wrote the new script, with O’Barr as a consultant. Pressman, Kevin Misher, Ryan Kavanaugh of Relativity, Jeff Most and Jeff Waxman are producers. Bob and Harvey Weinstein are among the executive producers with Dan Farah.
