Starz has its own anthology series, The Missing, which just earned a second season ahead of its series finale.
The Missing’s second season will run eight episodes and will feature a completely new case that plays out over two time periods. The new season will also have a completely new cast. It will be written by brothers Harry and Jack Williams.
The show’s first season centers on the disappearance of Oliver Hughes, a five-year-old boy, and the search for him. James Nesbitt and Frances O’Connor star, alongside Tchéky Karyo, Jason Flemyng, Saïd Taghmaoui and Émilie Dequenne.
O’Connor was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a miniseries/TV movie. The series itself was also nominated for Best Miniseries/TV movie.
“The remarkably talented Williams brothers crafted a beautifully complex and heart wrenching story with The Missing and while the story, character and locations will be different in this new iteration, we anticipate the same captivating long-form storytelling and character development that critics and viewers have responded so well to,” Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik said in a statement. “We have been thrilled with the critical response and look forward to continuing our terrific collaboration with the BBC, New Pictures and Playground Entertainment.”
The season one finale airs on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Anthology shows are all the rage at the moment. HBO is working on the second season of True Detective, while FX has its popular American Horror Story series, which is currently in its fourth season.
