Staying with the Yankees, Derek Jeter’s retirement from baseball was a major sports story this year. The former team captain’s farewell was big news because of his success, longevity and the way he played the game. Jeter received respect from players on every team he faced in 2014. Jeter’s career in the Bronx was capped off with a Hollywood ending when he delivered the game-winning hit in a 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
