Ryan Reynolds has been attached to play Marvel’s Deadpool character for what seems like forever and Fox still wants him to play the role. He’s signed a new deal with the studio to get back onboard.
Deadpool, which will center on the X-Men universe wise-cracking mercenary, got moving once again in September, when the studio scheduled the film out of nowhere. The movie is scheduled for release on Feb. 12, 2016.
According to Deadline, Reynolds is close to finalizing his deal today. Fox will be producing the film with Marvel Studios and Tim Miller, who has been attached since 2011, is still set to direct.
Reynolds has been posting images of Deadpool on Twitter, which confirms that he is still involved.
While Marvel fans have always held out hope that a Deadpool movie would happen eventually, the project got a public boost in interest over the summer when test footage from an attempt at a film two years ago surfaced. Rob Liefeld, who created the character, confirmed on social media that the reel was real, although Fox did pull it from the web.
