Rapper Bobby Shmurda was arrested on Tuesday in connection with an New York Police Department investigation, which involved several shootings and drug trafficking.
At the moment, the indictment is sealed, so the exact charges the 20-year-old is facing are unknown. TMZ reports that he was linked to a long-term investigation the NYPD was working on with a special narcotics prosecutor.
Shmurda was arrested with members of the Brooklyn gang GS9, which shares a name with his rap crew, reports Billboard.
Schmurda’s charges will be revealed on Thursday during arraignment. A spokesperson for NYC’s special narcotics prosecutor told Billboard that police do plan on holding a press conference in Thursday afternoon.
This isn’t the rapper’s first run-in with the law. He was arrested in October on marijuana charges in Brooklyn and in June for possession of a weapon.
He was also in the news in October because he complained on social media about not getting paid for his concerts, Billboard reported at the time. His mother, who is also his manager, explained that he was just unhappy that he wasn’t being paid right away for his performances.
