While both XBox Live and Playstation Network remain offline, the hackers who have claimed responsibility for it say that they have stopped attacking the networks.

As we previously reported, just as many families were setting up their new XBox One or Playstation 4, the online networks for both consoles went down. A hacker group called Lizard Squad was believed to be responsible, since they had been threatening to do something big on Christmas Day.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lizard Squad has tweeted that they stopped attacking the networks. “Attacks were stopped around 2 hours ago, the current downtime is just the aftermath,” they tweeted.

Meanwhile, the networks remain down and support staff for XBox Live and PSN have said that they are working to fix the issue.

Lizard Squad gave hints that they were going to attack the networks on Christmas Day. They have also said they are responsible for other outages during the month.

While the attack did hit a Sony network, it isn’t believed to be linked to the attack on Sony Pictures over its The Interview movie.
