Guardians of the Galaxy has become the top grossing film of 2014 and director James Gunn is already working on a sequel to the intergalactic movie but fans are still asking questions and searching for clues about how this movie will fit into the overall Marvel cinematic universe. Gunn recently was featured on "The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith" podcast and opened up about Guardians and The Avengers.

Gunn explained that his comments about the Avengers and Guaridans coming together have been taken out of context. Gunn originally said that the two groups of characters were not likely to meet up. “[We're] trying to make [Avengers] effect it as little as possible,” said Gunn. Saying that the tone of Avengers was darker compared to that of Guardians.
“We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don’t think people should assume too many things about the Guardians play in all this. We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers’ province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it’s gonna happen," said Gunn.
He took to his Facebook page to clarify his comments and explain the possibility of these two groups coming together, Comingsoon.net reported. Gunn wasn't able to provide an answer to if these characters would collide because those talks are still ongoing with Marvel but went on to explain why his original quote was out of context.
Variety reported that during the Q&A Gunn explained that he wanted to kill off Stan Lee during his cameo in the film. Gunn had two different plans for the cameo, the first included, having Lee be seen at the Collector's museum and he would flip off Groot. The second would have had Lee sitting in his box, the museum would explode and the audience would see Lee's head rolling into frame.
Turns out the first plan would have taken too long during post production and Marvel said no to having Lee die in the film.
"We very clearly saw Stan Lee's box exploding, when the thing explodes. I said, 'Wouldn't it be great if Stan Lee's'--these are the kind of ideas that I would come up with, and Marvel would say, 'I think that's super James Gunn'--but, 'Stan Lee's head is rolling into frame.' And anyway, so we didn't do that," explained Gunn during the Q&A.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released on May 5, 2017.
