After seven seasons of serious drama on Mad Men, Christina Hendricks is going to get to show off her comedy chops in Roadies, Cameron Crowe’s rock comedy pilot that’s in the works at Showtime.
Roadies was ordered to pilot in June and centers on a rock tour, from the perspective of the crewmembers. Luke Wilson and Imogen Poots have already joined the cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hendricks will play Shelli, the band’s production manager. She is also an ingenious work partner of Bill’s (Wilson). She’s really good at her job.
Roadies will be filmed in Vancouver early next year. Crowe will be directing the pilot and J.J. Abrams is still executive producing under his Bad Robot. It is a Warner Bros. TV production with Bad Robot, Vinyl Films and Dooley & Company Productions.
On Mad Men, Hendricks starred as Joan Harris, who was, coincidentally, also really good at her job. On the big screen, Hendricks has been seen in Drive and John Slattery’s God’s Pocket.
Mad Men stars are likely desperate for some humor, as others have gone the comedy route as well. Jon Hamm is going to make more appearances on Parks and Recreation’s final season, while January Jones stars on Fox’s The Last Man On Earth.
Mad Men finishes the second half if its seventh and final season next spring on AMC.
