Barack and Michelle Obama's first date will become the film 'Southside with You'

President Barack Obama is getting a movie, but it’s the type you might expect. Southside with You, which follows Barack and Michelle Obama’s very first date, has begun production.

According to Deadline, the film will star Get On Up actress Tika Sumpter as the future first lady. The role of Barack Obama has yet to be cast.

Variety reported that Richard Tanne is writing and directing the film. He and Sumpter worked on the script together and both will executive produce. Tracey Bing and Stephanie Allain will produce.

The first date that will Tanne will be adapting to the screen took place all the way back in 1989. Obama was a first-year Harvard Law student working at law firm Sidley Austin as an associate over the summer. There, he meets attorney Michelle Robinson, who agrees to go on a date with him to the Art Institute and to the Spike Lee film Do The Right Thing. The rest is history; the two married in 1992.

Filming will begin next July on location in Chicago.
