6. Platoon - Oliver Stone, 1986
Platoon is an episodic trip through the horrors of Vietnam, courtesy of writer/director Oliver Stone. Like the best Vietnam war movies, including the ones on the rest of this list, it asks the important questions of war, told through the eyes of a young soldier (Charlie Sheen). In that sense, it’s a throwback to the important World War I films that asked the same questions.
