2. Full Metal Jacket - Stanley Kubrick, 1987
Full Metal Jacket remains one of the more difficult films on war to watch. Yes, the film’s second half is sort of ho-hum by Kubrick standards, but if you think about his other work, it’s as well directed as Paths of Glory. But it’s the opening portion of the film that people focus on, since it set a new standard for showing military training and how soldiers are often turned into robots. The second half shows that, while training might never successfully do that, American soldiers can still make it through all the sh*t.
