Taboo, the Ridley Scott-produced BBC series that will star Tom Hardy, will air in the U.S. thanks to FX. The network boarded the project on Tuesday.
The project was first reported on in April and will star the Dark Knight Rises actor as James Keziah Delaney, a 19th Century adventurer who returns to England after a trip from Africa with illegal diamonds. He hopes to avenge his father’s death and begins a business empire just as Europe builds its relationship with the young U.S.
Hardy created the series with his father, Chips Hardy and will serve as co-executive producer with Scott. Steven Knight, who directed Hardy in Locke and wrote Eastern Promises, is also executive producing.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the series will be filmed later next year and will debut in 2016. It will air on BBC One in the U.K. and FX in the U.S.
Hardy is among the top actors in the business today and will star as Mad Max in Mad Max: Fury Road, which opens in May 2015. He is also currently working with his Inception co-star Leonardo DiCaprio on The Revenant. He was last seen with the late James Gandolfini in The Drop.
