Robert De Niro confirms part in new David O. Russell, Jennifer Lawrence movie 'Joy'

Fans of Robert De Niro’s performance in Silver Linings Playbook should be pleased to know that he will indeed work with director David O. Russell once again. The iconic actor confirmed that he will be starring in Joy, a new film that will hopefully reunite him with Jennifer Lawrence.

While in Rome to promote a special screening of his HBO documentary Remembering the Artist: Robert De Niro, Sr, the actor told reporters that he will be working with Russell and Lawrence again.

“Yes I am going to do something with them. I am going to play a father,” De Niro said, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Russell has already expressed interest in casting De Niro as the father of Joy Mangano, the single mom who invented the Miracle Mop and became a successful businesswoman. Lawrence is set to play Mangano, if the contract talks with Fox 2000 pan out.

Russell also wrote an expanded part with Bradley Cooper in mind, so if that happens, Joy will be a full Silver Linings Playbook reunion. De Niro also appeared in Russell’s last film, American Hustle, in a small cameo part.

De Niro’s Silver Linings Playbook performance was considered a return to form and earned him his first Oscar nomination in over two decades.

Joy has already been scheduled for a Christmas 2015 release date.
