The sequel to Prometheus is moving along, and Ridley Scott revealed today that it will bring something completely new to the franhcise.
According to Bloody Disgusting, Ridley Scott revealed in an interview with The Australian that Prometheus 2 will introduce a new form of alien.
“So with Prometheus 2 what I’m trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act," Scott said. The director noted that the baby alien birthed at the end of Prometheus was pretty close to what Ripley encountered in the original Alien, but the sequel will introduce something entirely different.
With Prometheus, Ridley Scott took what could have been a boring prequel to Alien and turned it into something pretty unique, including some Xenomorph imagery but also introducing us to an entirely new species: The Engineers. It seems that Scott wishes to continue this with the sequel, making Prometheus into its own franchise that runs parallel to Alien and not just an opportunity for more of the same.
In fact, Scott revealed last month that Prometheus 2 won't have any Xenmorphs at all, according to ScreenRant. It sounds like this movie will focus mainly on the Engineers, with the introduction of this new alien creature in the film's third act.
So when can we look forward to seeing Prometheus 2? That's not really clear, as Ridley Scott's schedule is pretty busy right now. His next project is The Martian starring Matt Damon, which is set to release next fall as we previously reported. He also has the upcoming Blade Runner prequel in development. Scott probably wouldn't get to Prometheus 2 until early 2016 at best, meaning the movie would in a best case scenario be at least three years away.
Ridley Scott's new movie, Exodus: Gods and Kings, opens in theaters on December 12th.
