Country music’s most popular artist, Garth Brooks, decided today that he will not make appearances on talk shows to promote his album this week due to the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.
Brooks posted a short message on his Facebook page, in which he announced that it would be “distasteful” to promote his new record while the country deals with another controversial decision by the legal system.
“We landed in NY last night to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation. To spend the day promoting our stuff like nothing was wrong, seemed distasteful to me,” Brooks wrote. “I will gladly reschedule any or all appearances the networks will allow. Love one another, g.”
According to TheWrap, Brooks had appearances on NBC’s Tonight show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the Today Show scheduled. He was also set to appear on Live! With Kelly and Michael.
Brooks is currently promoting his first new album in over a decade, Man Against Machine. He is also touring to support the album.
Brooks made his decision after a grand jury decided not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting of teenager Michael Brown.
