The world now knows who actually pulled the trigger and fatally shot Osama bin Laden the night SEAL Team Six raided a compound in Pakistan.
The Washington Post has reported that the SEAL responsible for taking down the al-Qaeda founder and 9/11 mastermind is 38-year-old Robert O’Neill. The Montana native said in a recent interview with the paper that he was in fact the SEAL that fired the shot which killed bin Laden.
The revelation of the man only known as “The Shooter” up until now comes just before FOX News is set to air a special Tuesday of O’Neill speaking publicly about the raid.
On May 2, 2011, O’Neill said that he shot the terrorist leader twice in the forehead before he collapsed. He also confirmed the identity of another former SEAL Team member who fired shots as Mark Bissonnette. The public was already familiar with Bissonnette after he released a book detailing the raid.
The New York Daily News noted that O’Neill is a decorated veteran. He received 52 medals and was the recipient of two Silver Stars, three Presidential Unit citations and four Bronze Stars of valor during his time in the service.
