Disney, TCM sign deal to rejuvenate Disney World’s Great Movie Ride

Turner Classic Movies and The Walt Disney company are teaming up to make changes to the Great Movie Ride, the attraction at the center of Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Disney World. In exchange, Disney will provide TCM with rare programming.

The deal was first reported by the New York Times. According to the terms of the deal, TCM will help Disney renovate the ride, which has been housed inside the Orlando park’s Chinese Theatre replica since it opened. Posters promoting the ride will feature the words “Presented by TCM” and other material will include the TCM logo.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, TCM host Robert Osborne will record introductions for the movies guests “visit” during the ride. Digital movie posters will also be on display throughout the queue line. Lastly, the clip reel at the end will be completely changed.

Part of the deal that will make most fans of TCM and Disney smile even if you can’t make it to Orlando is a new TCM programming line-up called Disney Vault. This will include episodes of Disneyland and Walt Disney’s World of Color, as well as classic cartoons.

The first Disney Vault line-up will air from Sunday, Dec. 21 to Monday, Dec. 22. TCM will show 2913’s Santa’s workshop, the Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier film and The Vanishing Prairie, a nature documentary.

Disney and TCM have worked together before, with TCM airing live-action Disney films in the past. Disney has also allowed TCM to host screenings at the El Capitan theatre in Hollywood during the TCM Classic Film Festivals.
