Danny Boyle is once again without a Steve Jobs. The Oscar winning director has to find a new star for the upcoming Sony film, since Christian Bale has dropped out once again.
Last month, it appeared that Bale was ready to sign the dotted line and even writer Aaron Sorkin said that he was onboard. However, on Monday afternoon, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Bale left the project. The site’s sources said that Bale just decided he wasn’t right for the part.
Deadline reports that no talks with any star have taken place for the movie, so Bale might have not been as far along as some reports suggested. Still, Sony is hoping to begin production on the film this winter.
One has to wonder if Bale ultimately left because he had hoped the project would be a David Fincher-style movie, something Sony is obviously not going to get from Boyle, who has a very different style. Bale was reportedly Fincher’s top choice if the Gone Girl director did helm the movie, but he ultimately couldn’t agree to terms with Sony.
In between Bale being linked to the project, Leonardo DiCaprio was linked, but ultimately he left to work on The Revenant with director Alejandro G. Inarritu.
Last week, TheWrap reported that Seth Rogen was being courted for the Steve Wozniak part and Jessica Chastain was being considered for a female role. Boyle is reportedly heading back to Hollywood this week to meet with actors.
