Charlie Hunnam might star in one of the most talked about television shows, but he will likely always get questions about dropping out of Fifty Shades of Grey.
Hunnam would’ve played Christian Grey, until he dropped out citing a hectic schedule and too much pressure to live up to the beloved character from the best-selling book series.
He told Men’s Health that he simply couldn’t spread himself “too thin” and couldn’t imagine switching gears into two different characters so quickly.
"I was going to finish playing a psychopath who’d just lost his wife [in Sons of Anarchy], and five days later I’d be on set playing Christian Grey,” he said. "I was like, 'This is going to be a ... disaster.' It was the opposite of how I’ve tried to ground my career, not stretch myself too thin, and always do my homework."
He went on to say that although actors have a “tendency” to burn themselves out, that’s just not the route he wants to take in his career. "You end up not being able to give everything you want,” he said.
Jamie Dornan will appear as Christian Grey in the film, which also stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. It hits theaters Valentine's Day 2015.
