Bright green meteor captured flying over Japan (Video)

Look up in the sky. It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s a bright green meteor that lit up the night in Japan on Monday evening.

NineMSN noted that residents in the city of Fukouka, on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, reported seeing the suspected meteor as it flew through and burned up in the sky.

Cameras at the Fukuoka airport and Hakata Port captured images of the object before it completely dissipated.

Residents in the U.S. also said that they saw what resembled a “fireball” in the sky on Monday night. Cell phone cameras were rolling and social media was buzzing with people not really sure what they were looking at.

The American Meteor Society said it had more than 700 reported sightings of the object from several different states.

Experts believe that it was a piece of an asteroid which had broken off and ignited when it entered the Earth’s atmosphere causing the bright green and orange colors.
