Aaron Sorkin may be cashing out of TV but he’s going all-in on film. The veteran writer will adapt Molly Bloom’s memoir Molly’s Game for the big screen.
According to Deadline, the Mark Gordon Company optioned the memoir and Gordon himself will produce the film. This won’t be Sorkin and Gordon’s first collaboration, since they’re both involved in the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic that Danny Boyle is directing.
Sorkin’s most recent television project, The Newsroom, will end after its third season, which recently premiered. Sorkin told the Los Angeles Times that he will likely not return to television after The Newsroom meets its final deadline.
While the plot of the film is unknown, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Molly Bloom’s life gives Sorkin a lot to work with. Bloom was a world class skier by the time she was 21, but she failed to make the Olympic team upon trying out. Taking a year off before law school in Los Angeles, a series of events led to her making millions running a high-stakes underground poker game for eight years.
