'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1' sets 2014 record for first day pre-sale tickets bought

It should come as no surprise that moviegoers are eagerly anticipating the first part of The Hunger Games two-part finale, but now it is official. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 1 has officially set the 2014 record for tickets purchased on the first day of a pre-sale.

Entertainment Weekly got the scoop on the movie's pre-release excitement. When tickets went on sale for the first time Wednesday, Fandango said that Mockinjay sold more tickets than any other advance ticket sale in 2014. The previous record holder was held by Divergent earlier this year.

On Wednesday, Mockingjay amounted to 80 percent of the website's daily ticket sales. This is only one source of the movie's catching fire, though. Over at MovieTickets.com, the data proved even more productive. They were the ones that found the movie's 2014 record, also determining that Mockingjay doubled the number of tickets sold on
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's first day pre-sale.

Needless to say, Mockingjay is expected to be huge when it opens on Nov. 21. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is tracking to bring $130 to $150 million on its opening weekend, making it the biggest opening three-days of the year and beating previous record holder Transformers: Age of Extinction and its $100 million opening.
