Interview with Ming-Na Wen
TCC: How do you feel about May showing a little bit of a softer side now that she's Skye's S.O. and Coulson's crutch?
Ming-Na Wen: I know it's funny that when they say it's a softer side because if you were to meet anyone who behaved the way she did, you'd still be like, "oh what a b***" but it is a softer side for May. I think that she's realizing that her role has shifted, she has to fill Coulson's shoes because now he's filling fury's shoes. So she's always been sort of the maternal figure and I think that she's allowing that to happen.
TCC: Where do you want to see her character go?
MW:For me, I mean speaking about emotion for May I'd really, really love for her to be able to explore the Bahrain situation that she was in and what made her so, what caused her to be so hard. But then I would also love for her to explore her relationship with her mother too.
TCC: Would romance ever be realistic for her?
MW: Yeah, absolutely. I truly believe that. I mean, we saw her last year, she still has sexual needs that she needs to fulfill as a woman and even though Ward tricked her into aah— [laughs] a little escapade, I think for me, in my heart of hearts, she has such great loyalty and friendship and devotion to Coulson, I think any other relationship would probably be more on a sexual level. I don't know about romance yet.
TCC: How do you feel about the new team members and power dynamics?
MW: I think it's great because I think it's bringing out other parts of S.H.I.E.L.D., it's revealing what it was and how it began and how any big organization could lose its basic values. And we're starting back with the basic value of just trying to fight evil, and Hydra is a huge evil for us to do. So rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D. and learning from the past mistakes, hopefully that's where we're going with it.
After the stars made their rounds with reporters, they took some time to pose for photos together on the red carpet, goofing off the whole time like they've known each other forever.
