Covert Affairs’ Peter Gallagher is donning the badge. The actor will have a recurring role in the 16th season of Law & Order: SVU.
TVLine first broke the news. Gallagher will play Deputy Chief William Dodds, who has been described as both charismatic and tough-as-nails. Dodds is the head of all special victims units in New York City.
Showrunner and executive producer Warren Leight spoke highly of Gallagher. “I’ve wanted to write for and work with Peter Gallagher since… forever,” Leight said. “He’s an actor’s actor – deft with text and subtext; emotion and intellect.”
As Variety pointed out, Gallagher is no stranger to TV. In addition to his regular role on Covert Affairs, Gallagher was also a mainstay on The O.C.. His film credits are nothing to balk at either; he’s had roles in American Beauty, Sex, Lies, and Videotape, and The Hudsucker Proxy.
The new season of Law & Order: SVU premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 9/8c on NBC. In addition to Leight, the show is executive produced by Dick Wolf, Julie Martin, Jonathan Starch, and Peter Jankowski.
